2023 Viking World Journeys Itinerary

Once we decided on a 2023 WC, rather than the previously booked 2022 B2B, we had another decision to make:

  • 138 Days Ft Lauderdale to London, departing Dec 22nd 2022, or
  • 121 Days Los Angeles to London, departing Jan 8th 2023

Judi really doesn’t like spending Christmas away from home and we have both been through Panama many times – Judi about 10 and me 25+. Only 2 of the ports were new ports for us – Cozumel, which we have no desire to visit and Leon in Nicaragua, a country we have visited a number of times.

Therefore, it was a quick and easy decision, our preference was the 2023 Viking World Journeys, departing L/A (San Pedro) on Jan 8th 2023. Read on for the detailed itinerary and some Viking links.

Check out Viking’s promotional film, which I believe is narrated by the Chairman’s daughter, who is a Senior Vice-President.

Itinerary – Compared to 2020 WC

  • 2020 departed L/A for 8 days at sea, so we negotiated waiving the deviation fee to arrive early. If we missed the ship, Viking was responsible to get us to the ship in the South Pacific. One couple lost their luggage, which arrived on day 10, in Tahiti. In 2023, they have a day in Santa Barbara, for stragglers or late baggage, before heading to Hawaii.
  • Meddy – In 2020 we had minimal ports in the Meddy, while 2023 has an excellent Meddy itinerary. This comes with less coverage in SE Asia, as we miss China, Hong Kong, Philippines, Cambodia and Bangkok.
  • We have 66 out of 121 days in port, with port intensive cruises being a Viking hallmark.

  1. Hi Andy & Judi…We called Viking yesterday about the ‘23 WC and there was one Penthouse Veranda available. We feel this is meant for us…haha…since someone must’ve canceled recently. We are big cruisers but never for this long. Would love to hear pre-planning details…packing, preparing taxes, banking, destination research, etc. details from experts like you since we are 90% sure we’ll book it! Should I join your CC group, or am I currently in the correct place? Thank you!

    • Hi Jayne & Matt,

Thanks for leaving a comment and looking forward to meeting you on the WC. My suggestion is to join the Roll Call in Cruise Critic and ask lots of questions. We have lots of repeat World Cruisers, so lots of experts and they are all willing to share their experiences.

    • HaHa Nick – We must really like you guys, we just booked to spend another 4 months with you & Linda on a cruise ship.

Once we board in L/A, we can meet for lunch and you can update the 2020 re-union group.

      • At this time, no segments were published, although the itinerary is set up to create segments. If the cruise is selling well, similar to the 2018 & 2022 WC they may not require segments to fill the ship/

      • Yes, I read many positive comments from the 2018 WC and have discussed it with Jim. With the 2021 WC cancelled, the 2022 was quickly sold out, so they also don’t have segments.

The 2023 is selling well, so far, with all suites sold in the first week and most of the V cabins sold. With still over 2 years to go, we can always hope for a segment free WC. However, we had segments in 2020 and we were all pax on the same ship, having a great time. Unfortunately, some of our new friends left in Sydney.
